About
Gabe Brown and his wife, Shelly, founded Brown's Ranch, a 6,000-acre farm near Bismarck, North Dakota, focusing on farming and ranching in harmony with nature. They have since transitioned the ranch's ownership to their son, Paul, and his wife, Jazmin. Gabe's work has earned numerous awards, including the Heinz Award for the Environment and recognition as one of the 25 most influential agricultural leaders in the U.S. Author of the bestselling book Dirt to Soil, Gabe is also a partner at Regenified, co-founder of Understanding Ag, LLC, and an instructor for the Soil Health Academy.
Gabe is a pioneer and leading voice in regenerative agriculture, renowned for his innovative approach to restoring soil health and transforming conventional farming methods. Gabe transitioned from traditional farming to a regenerative model after experiencing several years of crop failures due to extreme weather. Rather than relying on chemical inputs, he embraced no-till farming, cover cropping, and holistic grazing to rebuild soil structure and fertility. His pioneering work has demonstrated that farmers can increase resilience, productivity, and profitability while regenerating ecosystems.
Through his farm, Brown’s Ranch, Gabe has showcased how integrating diverse plant species, minimising soil disturbance, and managing livestock holistically can restore degraded land. His approach has significantly increased organic matter, water infiltration, and microbial life in the soil, leading to healthier crops and livestock. His methods have not only improved yields but have also reduced dependence on synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, proving that regenerative agriculture can be both ecologically and economically viable.
